This week the husband and I visited the son and daughter-in-law in Texas for son’s birthday. He is in the army at Ft. Hood.
Texas is abloom right now with the state flower; Texas Bluebonnets. Being from California I’m used to the hills aglowing with golden poppies. In Texas the fields, hills, and any flat surface is overflowing with blue flowers. It is a pretty sight.
The weather was atrocious. If that is spring I’ll stick to Sunny California. It was windy, cold, and it seemed like a tornado was just waiting behind every black cloud. And my hair does not like humidity. LOL
But seeing the son for his birthday was priceless, and I’ll take any weather to see him. Like they say, “If you don’t like the weather, just wait a couple of hours, it will be different. 🙂
Has spring come to your neck of the woods yet?

Bluebonnets. They’re the Texas state flower. Last year the hubby and I took a road trip to take bluebonnet pictures and had a great time. We had planned to do it again this year, but then he broke his foot and kind of squashed that plan. I love seeing the wildflowers in the Spring. It makes up for the long, hot summers when nothing grows.
This definitely is not a normal Spring for us. Usually by the time April gets here, we have sunny days in the 70’s, very nearly perfect. This Spring sucks. I suspect we’re going to go straight from winter to summer at some point.

Tori, sorry about that, I saw them called bluebells all over the internet.

Oh, yes. I have to stick my head outside to see if I need long pants or short ones. Then the weather will change on me during the day or evening. Spring is here, but winter doesn’t want to go for good.
We have one person that has about an acre of bluebonnets that come up every year, and they are beautiful. We also have huge fields of yellow flowers that grow wild and I have no clue what they are. I have a flower book, and should investigate.

Pepper, yes it was strange weather and then we came home to just beautiful 77 degrees here in my neighborhood.

Funny you should ask when we just got walloped by a freak snow and ice storm! Better weather will come next week, I hope.

Jill, there is a wildflower in Texas called the bluebell. It’s what the creamery Blue Bell Ice Cream is named for. On the site of the creamery were once fields of bluebells. The bluebell isn’t as showy as the bluebonnet. It’s a pale blue but the smell is wonderful. We have bluebells in the field behind our house in the Texas Hill Country, and they smell like perfume.
Normally, the weather in the spring isn’t as violent in most of the state. The tornado alley part of North Texas is usually where it’s the worst. Ft. Hood is usually rather calm most times.

Well, didn’t see any tornados, but the sky was wicked looking.
